Running Victoriously

I will run the race set before me

God has planted a seed of desire within us to persevere in this life. He gave us short-term goals to desire for and to work for as well as long-term goals. But how do we consider which are short-term goals and long-term? On a short-term basis, we count goals which are attainable within a short span of time like: winning a game, graduating, career making, entering marriage, retiring from a job. Those are considered as short-term goals if you view life as TEMPORARY. Winning a game requires teamwork and sets of practice. Graduating from an educational level requires years of study and research. Marriage starts after years of deciding and choosing for a partner to spend the rest of our lives with. We may wonder how these things can be considered as short-term attainable goals even though it takes years of practice, study, and choosing options just to achieve it.

It is because the long-term goal that we are bound to attain takes a lifetime. It covers all those short-term goals as basis for the final verdict of our Omnipotent Judge, GOD. So do you know what that long-term goal is? It is our ETERNITY WITH GOD. All the short-term goals are just tests for us on how we handle it; on what we can learn about it and on how we are molded by God. He is preparing us for something big. We might not know when or how Jesus would come back, but He is giving us the idea of eternal happiness when we put Him and acknowledge Him as the center of our lives while doing those short-term goals.

There may be times when we feel weary after being bombarded with life’s obstacles. But those obstacles are just the frightful things we see when we take our eyes off the goal. God said in Jeremiah 12:5 “If you have raced men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with the horses? If you stumble in a safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” If we persevere and stand firm, we can be more prepared of what trials lies ahead. Life’s race isn’t about competing with other believers, it is the fight against the enemy that is trying to pull us out on track to God. For, “The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray” (1Peter4:7). FIGHT THE ENEMY AND RUN THE RACE OF LIFE VICTORIOUSLY TOWARDS GOD!
